Comment
on
the
TERMINATRYX
July
4th
album
launch
performance
by
Jon
Monsoon:
"Oh
yes,
it
was
good!
Kudos
and
max.
respect
to
Paul
&
Sonja
for
pushing
the
boundaries
a
lil'
further
out,
challenging
the
perceptions
of
what
a
'live
gig'
is
all
about.
(It
was
difficult
to
remain
seated
in
the
theatre
as
the
music
definitely
leant
itself
to
bodily
gyrations
of
the
extreme
sort,
still
it
was
fun
to
see
people
rocking
out
in
their
chairs!).
Closing
song
'Siek
+
Sat'
was
brought
to
vivid
life
with
awesome
effect
thanks
to
some
simple
yet
damn
effective
visuals!
This
band
definitely
has
many
facets;
what
you
hear
recorded
on
CD
is
just
one,
live
is
another...
and
visually
-
yet
another...
sonically
this
band
is
next
level....
Support
them...!
Looking
forward
to
seeing
what
they
put
together
for
the
VNV
Nation
show!"

TERMINATRYX
(pronounced:
"terminaytrix")
–
a
new
breed
of
South
African
music.
The
TERMINATRYX
sound
is
a
unique
one
in
the
South
African
musical
milieu
with
the
combination
of
striking
vocalist
Sonja
Ruppersberg
and
the
music
of
extreme
music
veteran
Paul
Blom
(V.O.D,
F8,
and
SAMA
winners
K.O.B.U.S.)
blending
into
an
Industrial-Metal
soundscape
rarely
found
in
this
country.
In
addition
there
are
many
musical
elements
subtly
filtering
through
across
the
diverse
songs,
from
Alternative-,
Hard
Core-
and
Punk
flavours,
to
Electronic-,
Dark
Wave-
and
Gothic
hints.
From
the
start
TERMINATRYX
never
attempted
to
sound
like
anyone
out
there,
developing
an
identity
all
their
own
with
inspiration
coming
from
cinematic
moods
rather
than
other
musical
references.
The
undercurrent
of
the
fusion-,
symbiosis-
and
corruption
of
man
&
technology
is
illustrated
and
supplemented
with
subjects
ranging
from
socio-political
issues,
individualism
&
independent
thought,
consumerism,
a
critical
tirade
in
Afrikaans,
a
love
song
alternative,
biological-
and
viral
infection,
alien
visitation,
instrumentals
and
more.
Reacting
on
the
state
of
the
world
(and
beyond),
there
is
no
mincing
of
words.
With
a
natural
aversion
to
cheap
commercial
sentiments
and
a
blind
consumer
society,
TERMINATRYX
is
truly
a
unique
South
African
audio
adventure,
looking
at
the
world
with
a
satirical
eye
as
they
take
the
listener
through
a
juxtaposed
range
of
sonic
intensity
and
calm,
merging
technology
with
the
organic
in
a
David
Cronenberg
vs.
H.R
Giger
trip.
Produced
by
Paul,
the
track
elements
were
re-recorded
in
February
2008
at
Flamedrop
Productions
(with
many
of
the
original
segments
recorded
since
2003
retained).
All
of
the
songs
are
original
creations
with
Sonja
and
Paul
also
acting
as
executive
producers.
Early
March
2008
Paul
entered
Sound
&
Motion
Studios
to
accompany
Simon
"Fuzzy"
Ratcliffe
across
a
10-day
period
to
mix
the
album.
The
final
mastering
was
done
late-March.
Fuzzy
also
guests
on
the
instrumental
track
ABSINTHIUM
with
upright
bass
and
a
variety
of
exotic
flutes,
adding
an
organic
emotional
element
to
the
predominantly
electronically
programmed
backbone
of
the
track.
Another
guest
includes
original
guitarist
Tom
Somers
with
lead
segments
on
SLEEPWALKERS
and
WE
COME
IN
PEACE.
Jenna
Bird
added
a
few
well-placed
bars
of
piano
on

MARCH
2008
Sonja
accompanied
Paul
to
Sound
&
Motion
Studios
to
mix
the
song
WE
COME
IN
PEACE,
with
Simon
Ratcliffe.
As
the
session
was
wrapped,
Sonja
had
a
sharp
pain
in
her
side.
Suspecting
the
pasta
salad,
they
went
home.
Half
an
hour
later
Sonja
was
doubling
up.
Off
to
the
ER
-
4
hours
and
blood
tests
later,
the
doctor
suggested
she
stay
over-night
and
check
out
her
appendix
the
next
morning.
Noon
the
next
day
she
was
in
the
theatre
and
the
almost-ruptured
appendix
came
out!
It
was
a
matter
of
hours.
She
recovered
well,
but
it
postponed
the
TERMINATRYX
album
launch
plans
by
about
a
month.

The
Cabinet
of
Dr.
Caligari
Blog
review
by
Something
Wicked
Magazine
Editor
Joe
Vaz
Saturday,
November
17,
2007:
Having
missed
last
year's
HORRORFST
Finale
of
Terminatryx
and
Lark's
original,
live
soundtrack
to
Nosferatu,
I
made
damn
sure
I
didn't
miss
this
year's
The
Cabinet
of
Dr.
Caligari.
I'd
only
ever
seen
snippets
of
the
film
on
YouTube
and,
like
all
70+
year
old
black
and
white
silent
movies
it
looks
cheesy,
corny
and
quite
silly.
But
all
that
changed
on
the
31st
of
Oct
2007.
Watching
a
classic
like
Caligari
in
a
darkened
theatre
with
a
live
21st
Century
soundtrack
suddenly
brings
back
the
scale
of
this
picture.
What
a
fucking
masterpiece
-
instead
of
giggling
at
the
screen
I
found
myself
suddenly
entranced.
Hanging
on
every
(written)
word.
The
score,
composed
and
performed
by
Paul
and
Sonja
from
Terminatryx,
Sean
and
Fuzzy
from
Lark,
and
The
Crackpot
Realist
was
beautifully
pieced
together,
altogether
haunting
and
kickass
with
a
combination
of
acoustic
and
electronic
sounds
with
vocal
contortions
supplied
by
Sonja
and
one
of
The
Crackpot
Realist's
collaborators.
What
they
manage
to
achieve
is
to
completely
revitalise
this
classic.
For
the
first
time
I
found
myself
completely
enthralled
by
a
silent
movie
-
marvelling
at
the
stylistic
approach
to
the
film
making,
finding
the
obvious
inspirations
of
such
great
genre
directors
as
Tim
Burton
and
Sam
Raimi.
With
their
soundtrack
they
managed
to
make
classic
breathe
again,
resurrecting
it
for
a
new
generation
of
film-makers
to
marvel
at
the
magic
of
the
silver
screen.

The

POST
EURO
TRIP
&
2006
HORROR
FEST
The
European
trip
was
a
blast!
It
was
good
to
meet
up
with
some
old
familiar
faces
in
London
before
we
head
over
to
Berlin,
Germany.
It
was
a
cool
experience
milling
about
the
Popkomm
convention
centre
and
networking
with
the
various
labels,
vendors,
press
etc.
The
Duncker
Club
show
on
21
September
’06
went
well
and
Diccon’s
8-string
bass
added
a
very
interesting
dimension.
We’ve
known
the
guys
from
Half
Price
for
a
while
and
also
got
acquainted
with
our
other
fellow
SA
bands
who
played
that
night
-
Misled
and
MyEpic.
On
arrival
at
the
club
we
noticed
posters
on
the
walls
and
flyers
with
some
people
who
looked
kind
of
familiar.
They
took
a
pic
from
our
website
of
the
old
TERMINATRYX
live
line-up
to
spice
up
their
promo
posters
for
the
show!
From
there
we
(Paul
&
Sonja)
went
on
a
holiday
trip
through
Paris,
Amsterdam
and
back
through
Germany
again,
before
heading
through
the
UK
once
more
for
the
last
few
days.
All
in
all
it
was
absolutely
brilliant.
On
our
arrival
it
was
straight
into
organizing
our
South
African
Horror
Festacular.
This
year
the
HorrorFest
film
festival
included
a
whole
range
of
added
genre
variants
like
comics,
PS2
games,
a
photo
exhibition
&
more.
www.HORRORFEST.info
This
year
also
took
extra
effort
with
TERMINATRYX
heading
the
original
live
soundtrack
to
the
1922
silent
vampire
classic
Nosferatu.
We
were
joined
on
stage
to
a
(near)
full
house
by
Francois
(V.O.D
/
Kobus!
/
Die
Kruis)
on
keyboards,
Matthijs
Van
Dijk
(Dawn
Treader)
on
electric
violin
and
from
Lark,
Simon
&
Sean,
with
everything
from
samples
and
upright
bass,
to
the
theremin
and
Middle-Eastern
duduk.
It
was
an
awesome
experience,
for
performers
and
audience
alike.
With
all
of
this
out
of
the
way,
our
attention
can
again
be
re-directed
at
getting
our
recordings
sorted.
We’ll
be
doing
some
re-recording,
mixing
and
mastering.
With
this
being
a
constant
work
in
progress,
a
release
date
is
not
yet
set,
but
we’ll
send
word
out
as
soon
as
there
is
one.
Have
a
great
holiday
&
end-of
2006!

The
line-up
will
be
the
stripped-down
TERMINATRYX,
consisting
of
Sonja
(vox)
and
Paul
(bass,
programming,
backing
vox),
with
Diccon
Harper
(V.O.D,
ex-Demoniac,
ex-Dragonforce)
on
8-string
bass.
As
with
the
last
few
shows
we
won't
be
using
a
drummer
(the
programming
taking
care
of
all
that).
Our
guitarist
couldn't
make
the
trip,
and
with
Paul's
bass
mostly
acting
as
a
low
tuned
guitar,
Diccon's
addition
for
this
rare
line-up
will
prove
to
be
a
bassed-up

From
EYE
to
WHY
-
What's
in
a
Name?
Since
the
group's
inception
in
2002,
we
thought
the
name
was
quite
a
cool
amalgamation
of
many
Sci-Fi
elements
for
which
we
have
an
affinity.
But
since
then
the
name
has
been
used
everywhere
across
the
globe,
from
clubs
to
movies.
Thus
we
decided
to
alter
the
spelling
just
a
touch
to
make
it
more
our
own.
So,
from
now
on
it
is
TERMINATRYX,
its
pronunciation
is
unaltered,
as
with
the
sound
and
attitude
of
the
music.
